So when a friend mentioned Prevention was looking for busy women to test a new fitness program that only required working out for 10 minutes a day, Zajac decided to join. “It sounded perfect for me,” she says. Cleaning up her diet was the easy part, but Zajac wasn’t so sure about the 10-minute sculpting workouts. Would she really have time? But with her husband’s encouragement, Zajac picked the only time she had—around 9 pm each night after dinner—and stuck with it. [block:bean=mkt-book-flexblock-fitin10-conte] “The first four weeks I lost weight really quickly. I’d get on the scale in the morning and think, ‘Is this a joke? Is the scale working?’ I’d make my husband stand on it to make sure it hadn’t broken since the day before!” she laughs. She also noticed that she was able to run up the subway stairs a little faster, and felt a little whoosh of extra confidence when she walked into meetings. There were still those days when she wanted to just crash on the couch, but she kept at it. “If the workouts had been any longer, I would have had more excuses in my head,” she says. “But once I got through those first few weeks, it really became a habit. Plus, the routines were super-efficient. You really felt like you hit everything—your arms, belly, butt, hips, and thighs—and they flew by.” Now, with the 8-week program behind her, Zajac is shocked that such small changes could lead to such a dramatic change. With 12 pounds and 17 inches gone, nothing in her closet fits—everything is too big, and it’s time to go shopping. “I used to only buy clothes that were black or gray—you know, the average New Yorker,” Zajac says. “But now, I’m reaching for color. There’s no more hiding.” She pauses, her eyes filling with tears. “It’s life-changing.”
