Ashley’s answer: Whether you eat animal or go all veggie, we, like all other animals, need our protein. Protein is made from amino acids and builds our lean body mass, helps form healthy hormones, and provides lasting energy. But how much is the right amount?  Depending on age, activity level and life stage, your protein needs will differ (the range for most is 0.5 grams to 0.7 grams/lbs body weight, while requirements for endurance and strength-building athletes are higher.)However, before you bust out your calculator, I can give you a few easy ways to check your protein intake. Every day, every person needs protein at each eating occasion (or at least most of them.)  A serving of protein can range from as little as 6 g to as high as 20 g, and if you are reading a label, make sure that your packaged food delivers a full serving. And make sure it’s for the serving size you actually eat, not just what it says on a label! Another easy way to assess a proper serving is to use your palm (no fingers!) and the thickness of your palm as well. And finally, check out my nutrition plan portion information on proteins.
